HOW TO WARD OFF SCOFFERS

“So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Do business till I come.’” Luke 19:13 NKJV

Someone was explaining the importance of focus. He wondered what would happen if someone on the field of play responds to every jeer or affirmation. The answer is that the game would be lost. Sportsmen and women know the power of focus. Tournaments have been won and lost because of this. One minute can define the game, so they stay alert throughout the game. They train to not be carried away either by the cheers of supporters or the jeers of the opposing fans that come in equal measure. Believers must stay focused just like athletes. In any case, one of the metaphors employed to describe us is an athlete.

“It is our responsibility to make each day count for God.”

We observed in our previous meditation that scoffers will come in their number in the last days. One way to fight them off is to be busy for the Kingdom of God. In several passages of scripture, we are enjoined to wait. But you won’t find where we are instructed to be idle. Waiting in scripture is by doing something. As we wait for the Master to return, we must be doing things in consonance with the will of Heaven. Each one of us must engage our gifts and talents. We are endowed differently according to the will of the Spirit. These endowments are not for decoration; they are for the propagation of the Kingdom. Though our gifts are different, we have an equal amount of time daily. It is our responsibility to make each day count for God. Get busy for the Lord until you are not fazed by what the opposition is doing.
