“But now bring me a musician.” Then it happened, when the musician played, that the hand of the LORD came upon him.” 2 Kings 3:15 NKJV

An informal survey was conducted on social media on depression. The researcher asked, “The last time you got depressed, how did you come out of it?” Respondents came up with answers ranging from running to swimming. Some mentioned surrounding themselves with understanding acquaintances, while others said serving others even in their lowest moment was the key. An interesting revelation from the survey was that majority of the people said their escape came from listening to quality gospel music. This brings us to the incredible power of music. When an evil spirit tormented Saul, recommendation was made that someone with musical ability be brought. David was the candidate that fitted the slot. Whenever he played the evil spirit would bow and Saul was refreshed. In essence, anointed music drives out evil spirits.

“The lesson here is that spirits trend with music. Some music can cast out devils while some can attract them. Some music can draw in the Spirit of God while some others can repel Him. “

In our text of Scripture for meditation, Elisha needed contact with the Spirit of the Lord, and he called for a minstrel. This time around we have no information of who was brought. However, the result was undeniable. The Spirit of the Lord descended on the prophet and he spoke the word of the Lord to the kings. The lesson here is that spirits trend with music. Some music can cast out devils while some can attract them. Some music can draw in the Spirit of God while some others can repel Him. We must be circumspect in choosing the kind of music we allow in our space. Our choice of music should be that which will lift our spirits and bring edification. Finally, those who are called into music ministry must elevate their calling beyond mere entertainment. It is a serious assignment that can set people free from the oppression of the devil.
