Turning his attention quickly from the “filthy rich”, James brought a word of hope and consolation to the children of God who may be at the receiving end of things on earth. Those who take a stand for righteousness will sometimes find that they are sidelined or robbed of what is truly due to them. The world is structured to be a disadvantage to believers, and the reason is not far-fetched. The Bible describes Satan as the prince of this world. His principles which are mostly anti-God hold sway. In such an environment, fair treatment for the people of God is scarce. The good news is that the travesty of justice against believers will elapse. The Lord will make all things right when He returns.
“The return of the Lord is the basis of all consolation. In God’s kingdom, injustice will cease. Inequality will come to an end. Everyone shall have their due reward…It will be no less rewarding for believers when the Lord comes.”
The return of the Lord is the basis of all consolation. In God’s kingdom, injustice will cease. Inequality will come to an end. Everyone shall have their due reward. To some, the idea of blessing in the sweet by and by is a fairy tale. They want justice now or are ready to take matters into their hands. The Bible teaches otherwise. We are encouraged to endure till the time of the end. To strengthen this position, James called the attention of the brethren to the life of a farmer. The farmer, no matter how pressed for results, is at the mercy of the rain. He has to wait patiently for the former and later rain before thrusting in the sickle. When the harvest eventually comes, it is a happy ending for the farmer. The harvest justifies the waiting period. It will be no less rewarding for believers when the Lord comes.
