“I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ”. Revelation 1:9

In our previous meditation, we learned that Jesus was (and still is) the epitome of the highest and purest form of love. The love He demonstrated came with the supreme price as He laid down His life for humanity. Having done this, He invited all believers to practice His kind of love. Several of the apostles as well as early Christians heeded the call. We have one example in our text. John the revelator said he was banished to the island of Patmos “for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ”. It will not be injustice to Scripture to say that he was banished “for the love of God”.

Fellowshipping and worshipping God opened the floodgates to revelation…The more we love Him the more we can access the secrets of eternity.

Ironically, it was in that banished state that he saw incredible visions. He later penned down a panorama of God’s plan not only for the saints but the whole world. When John was exiled to the Island, he was able to bear up under pressure. Rather than let his spirit be broken, he soared above physical pains and worshipped the Lord. The Bible captures this in verse 10 where John “was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day”. Fellowshipping and worshipping God opened the floodgates to revelation. Now, John is a portrait of a man who had taken his love for God to the highest degree. That was why he did not count his life dear; and could worship God in unlikely circumstances. No wonder God was willing to grant him access to such revelations. The more we love Him the more we can access the secrets of eternity.
