In our previous meditation, we hinged the hope of having a better year on reset, particularly of the mind. The second important factor for a better year is RESTART. Whenever we are called to restart, it is a call to either fix what went wrong on previous occasions or make some additions in order to have better outcomes. For David, his restart was to fix previous error. Our text described his second attempt at bringing the ark into Jerusalem. Two chapters before this, he made the first move which ended in a disaster. They had put the ark of God on a new cart. When the cart stumbled and someone made move to stabilize the ark, he was smitten by the Lord for touching it. Three months passed before another attempt was made. This time around, David consulted the law of the Lord and found that carrying the ark was strictly the job of the Levites. When they resorted to God’s stipulated standard, they had a joyous outcome.
Like David, if you had made some wrong moves in the past that were counterproductive, you can restart this year…However, when you do your restart, don’t repeat the error of the past lest the frustration of the past resurfaces.
Each of us has opportunity to press the restart button this year. This is one of the beauties of a new year. Like David, if you had made some wrong moves in the past that were counterproductive, you can restart this year. Pressing the restart button in itself is a demonstration of resilience, an important ingredient for successful living. However, when you do your restart, don’t repeat the error of the past lest the frustration of the past resurfaces.
