Focus used to be on Intelligence Quotient. In recent times, studies have shown that someone may have a high IQ and be a failure in life. So other forms of quotient have joined the fray. It is not uncommon to now hear about Emotional Quotient. There is also Relationship Quotient, which describes how successful someone would be at relationships. Saul must have scored poorly on Relationship Quotient. Samuel first met him through divine referral. God told Samuel He would send a man to him, who should be anointed as king over Israel. That first meeting was celebrated with a feast. The passage today shows a sad ending to a divinely orchestrated relationship. Repeated disobedience on the part of Saul did permanent damage to that relationship. Samuel withdrew physical contact from Saul till he died.
Relationships are so vital in fulfillment of destiny; yet they are so sensitive. When God brings you into a relationship, don’t forget to ask for help to build it and fulfill divine purpose.
Saul wrecked other relationships as well – at least we can cite the one that he had with David. His meeting with David was no less divine. The young boy first supplied him with anointed music to cure him of his disorder. Then he showed up again to take care of what had become an embarrassment to his kingdom – he killed Goliath of Gath. Saul became jealous and insecure. He sought ways to hunt down an innocent boy until David had to escape. Another “made in heaven” relationship had kissed the dust. Relationships are so vital in fulfillment of destiny; yet they are so sensitive. It takes wisdom and all of the graces of the Spirit to keep them. When God brings you into a relationship, don’t forget to ask for help to build it and fulfill divine purpose.
