In his epistle, James made it plain that all good things come from the Father of light. Take that to mean all blessings have their origin in God. Speaking about the blessing of the Lord, the wise man said that it makes rich and adds no sorrow with it. If there is anything to add it would be that God is ever too eager to bless people. However, there are conditions to be met to swim in divine blessings. These conditions will form the focus of our meditation today and the next several days.
To attract blessing, we must withdraw from the counsel of the ungodly…wrong association can delay or ruin our chance of getting blessed.
Our text reveals the attribute of the man who stands to be blessed. He is the person that minds how he walks, where he stands, and with whom he sits. To attract blessing, we must withdraw from the counsel of the ungodly. Ungodly counsels are those that teach us to obtain result without recourse to God’s principles. Again, those who want God’s hand of blessing must withdraw from the path of sinners; those who know the principles of God but live contrary to them. Finally, those who scorn at the way of truth cannot be of help in attaining what God has in mind. We understand that in the last days scoffers will come. They will deny the veracity of the word of God, and mock at what God plans to do. Any of these categories of people can delay or ruin the plan of God for a life. The summary of all these is that wrong association can delay or ruin our chance of getting blessed. We must learn to choose our circle of relationships wisely.
