The previous meditation stressed both the necessity and blessing of praying. Teaching further on the subject of prayer, Jesus enjoined His followers to table their requests to the Father in His name. “Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.” John 16:24 NKJV. His name is our access to the presence of the Father. His name is also our authority over devils.
His name is our access to the presence of the Father. His name is also our authority over devils…Faith in the name of Jesus will make even the gates of hell to quiver.
After a period of tutelage, Jesus sent His disciples into the field, but not until He had equipped them. Their power-equipping was wrapped up in His name. On their return they had more than enough tales of victory to tell the Master. Excitedly they said, “even the devils are subject unto us through thy name”. Their choice of words suggests that they never imagined they would have it that good. It was like a walkover for them. Never forget that before this time they had been under the wings of the Master. The point is this: brooding under the Master breeds power! The more time we have at His feet, the better we are able to operate in victory over the enemy. The Apostles of Jesus were ordinary men in every sense of the word. They submitted to Jesus until His aura was all over them. The council that tried to probe them recognized that they did not attend the best institutions of their time and wondered where they got their boldness from. They soon found out that they had been with Jesus. Faith in the name of Jesus will make even the gates of hell to quiver.
