Joseph was an odd man among his siblings. This has nothing to do with his coat of many colours but his stand for righteousness. He abstained from the evil practices of his brothers. While the Bible did not state expressely that his stand for righteousness had anything to do with it, we can safely assume it was one of the reasons why God blessed him with divine dream that would make him impact his world eventually.
Those who take stand for the truth, not minding to be odd, present themselves unto God for higher service.
Being the odd one is not easy. This much is suggested in our text of scripture today. In the days of Isaiah, those who stood out for truth risked being attacked by the multitudes who would just blend in. Not much has changed in our time. However, if we consider the long term effect of being odd for God, it pays. The reward of standing out may not be immediately made manifest, but one day those who endure the ordeal will be able to look back and know that it is worth it. We are quick to associate what is odd with the negatives. From Joseph’s story, it is clear that one can be odd and positively so. In reality, in order to build godly character and be true ambassadors of the kingdom, there are many occasions when we will have to be odd. A chameleon approach to life cannot walk in tandem with the plans and purposes of God. Those who take stand for the truth, not minding to be odd, present themselves unto God for higher service.
