People find different motivations for what moves they make. Sometimes, it is governed by herd instinct. They go in a particular direction because that is where the vast majority of people are going. At other times, it could be their pedigree. This seems to be the case with Isaac. In Genesis 13 we see Abraham move to Egypt because of the famine. The end story was not quite pleasant as he had to compromise his integrity to preserve himself and his wife. When there was another famine in the days of Isaac, he also wanted to flee to Egypt, leaning from what he had seen his father do. God stopped him, and he was directed to another location.
Moving by the word makes you like a tree planted by rivers of water. Even if the environment is hard for others, God’s word can turn the desert land to a fruitful field for you.
His obedience turned things around and he became exceedingly fruitful. “Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the Lord blessed him. The man began to prosper, and continued prospering until he became very prosperous; for he had possessions of flocks and possessions of herds and a great number of servants. So the Philistines envied him.” Genesis 26:12-14 NKJV. Economic difficulties alone should not be the reason we move. Economic forces constitute part of those temporal things that are subject to change. God’s people are not to be moved by what they see but by what Heaven says. Moving by the word makes you like a tree planted by rivers of water. Even if the environment is hard for others, God’s word can turn the desert land to a fruitful field for you.
