In our previous meditation, we established that one of the ways that Israel sinned against God was their failure to wait for divine counsel. Our present focus is to know what is required in waiting on God for counsel. First on the list is time. We live in a jet age where things are done at a much faster rate. We are used to instant coffee. You can have your fill in less than a minute. We are also used to search engines. You enquire and within seconds you have millions of probable answers. The instant coffee or internet approach to finding out God’s mind will not work.
we cannot know the mind of God in a hurry. No wonder the Bible says, “he that believeth shall not make haste.” Isaiah 28:16 KJV
On one of his shuttles to the Mount, Moses waited for six days. All that period, only the cloud covered the Mount. It was not until the seventh day that God called Moses and began to instruct him. Interestingly, Moses did not go to the Mount by his own design; God invited him. To put this in perspective, imagine that someone invited you to his house. On arrival, you are kept in the living room and the man disappears to some parts of the house. You have no clue what you were invited for, and your acquaintance did not show up for another six hours. Most people will feel slighted and walk away within the first hour of waiting. Moses endured six days all alone. Here is the point: we cannot know the mind of God in a hurry. No wonder the Bible says, “he that believeth shall not make haste.” Isaiah 28:16 KJV
