The writer of the book of Hebrews enjoins all believers to come boldly to the throne of grace. As the name suggests, the throne is where grace is dispensed to us. To appreciate this invitation, we need to remember that our entire lives are tied to grace. Our salvation is tied to grace. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God” Ephesians 2:8 NKJV. The hope of doing any exploit depends on grace. “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.” I Corinthians 15:10 NKJV. Finally, pulling through difficult situations can only happen by grace. “And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” II Corinthians 12:9 NKJV
we need to remember that our entire lives are tied to grace. Our salvation is tied to grace…The hope of doing any exploit depends on grace…pulling through difficult situations can only happen by grace.
Given the all-round necessity of grace, we should be grateful for such an open invitation to the throne of grace. However, the throne is not only known or described as the throne of grace, it is also the throne of His holiness. “God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.” Psalm 47:8 KJV. He who will make the most of the throne of grace must come with a clean hand and heart. The Bible makes it plain that without holiness, no one can see God.
