As David entered the twilight of his life, Adonijah presumably became the heir. He probably thought that succession would be by seniority. Perhaps he would have retraced his steps if David his father had cautioned him. In all probability, David knew about his posturing but did nothing. “(And his father had not rebuked him at any time by saying, “Why have you done so?” He was also very good-looking. His mother had borne him after Absalom.)” I Kings 1:6 NKJV. Adonijah took the king’s silence for consent and went on a path that eventually consumed him. David must have learned that not all silence is golden.
It is dangerous to leave undone what needs to be done or keep postponing them to a future date. That could spell disaster one way or another. Keep in mind that “a stitch in time saves nine”.
What David failed to do for Adonijah, Bathsheba did for Solomon. A timely step by her eventually brought Solomon to the throne. Nathan prompted her to remind the king of his earlier promise to make Solomon the king. That step not only preserved the throne for Solomon but also probably saved their lives. It is dangerous to leave undone what needs to be done or keep postponing them to a future date. That could spell disaster one way or another. Keep in mind that “a stitch in time saves nine”.

Awesome devotional!
Thank you sir for this timely reminder!
I am reminded that Procrastination can lead to disaster, but I also have the power to change.
I’ll take care of small tasks, knowing they add up to make a big difference. Lord, help me be proactive, diligent, and faithful.
Give me strength and courage to take the first step and keep moving forward.
