Naaman, the Syrian army general, almost lost his miracle. He simply did not understand God’s ways. Following the recommendation of a slave girl, he went to Samaria with great pomp in search of healing. The prophet Elisha asked him to go and dip himself seven times in the river Jordan, and that would suffice for his healing. That got him angry. He had better rivers back home, and felt that such instruction was ridiculous. He was also disappointed that the prophet did not personally come out to him. It took the intervention of his servants to save the day. When he obeyed the prophet, he was cured of leprosy.
God’s operations are beyond the limits of human conventions…What we must never forget is that even those things that look foolish are wiser than the best wisdom man can put together.
God’s operations are beyond the limits of human conventions. One of the reasons why many people miss God’s operations is that they expect Him to reason and act in a certain way. To begin with, it is utterly unreasonable for anyone to think that they can dictate how God should carry out His work. He is far too great to be ordered around. The Bible declares that His ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are far above ours. When viewed from a human standpoint, the preferred ways of God will appear foolish. What we must never forget is that even those things that look foolish are wiser than the best wisdom man can put together.
