I watched a video clip of Pastor Gbile Akanni, a notable Nigerian preacher, where he recalled the closing chapter of a man of God. The man in question was a listener’s delight in his heyday. His voice thundered through the radio, and he was known on many crusade grounds around the nation, particularly in the western part of Nigeria. Spectacular signs and wonders also attested to his ministry. Pastor Gbile was excited when he was invited to his ministry, because he used to look up to him. However, it was a disappointing experience when he got there. The cloud of glory was gone, and so was the crowd. The old man confessed that his love for women ruined him.

Adultery does not spare the throne. Whether in ministry, business, or politics, the truth remains the same. From scripture, it is even safer to say that adultery loves to strike at the very top of achievement. The latter part of Proverbs 6:26 says, And the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.” If you have anything precious about your life, beware because you are a target. This must have informed the counsel given in our text. A virtuous woman gave a timely warning to her son. She wanted him to avoid what had destroyed kings all through history. A man of great authority can be reduced to a piece of bread because of an uncontrolled sexual appetite. There is nowhere else that sexual energy is to be expended other than in marriage. Illicit sexual escapades will lead to shame and regret. Those who set a holy boundary safeguard their throne.
