I fancy the times of providing biblical viewpoints to my children on different subjects. I remember the time that two of them asked me about tattoos. Not that they contemplated wearing any, but they did not see anything wrong with whosoever chooses to get it. I asked them to imagine borrowing a car from someone. Would they be at liberty to inscribe anything on it? Their answer was no. Because they borrowed it, they would love to return it in the best condition possible. I explained to them that our bodies should be seen in the same light.
Dire consequences will follow those who desecrate their bodies with immorality. We cannot afford to treat the body the way we like, because it truly belongs to another – God.
This brings us to our text. Apostle Paul wrote that to the effect that we should avoid fornication, among other things. In 1 Corinthians 3:16, we read – “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” Our bodies are likened to God’s sacred temple. To say the least, God is jealous over His temple. Once, Jesus was enraged when they turned the temple to a house of merchandise and den of robbers. He made a whip and flushed out those guilty of that sacrilege. Well, that was just for physical building. If so much care was taken to protect the physical building, how much more care will be exercised over spiritual temples that all believers are? Dire consequences will follow those who desecrate their bodies with immorality. We cannot afford to treat the body the way we like, because it truly belongs to another – God.
