It is possible to carry errors into old age. It is a reality of life that age is never a compensation for ignorance nor does it necessarily shade from error. Here is an illustration. One Alex Oluwatobi asked a question on his Facebook page – “At what age did you know that E.g means ‘example given’, i.e means ‘in essence’? Well, I got to know on that very day he asked the question. All through the years, people commonly interpret e.g as “For Example” and i.e as “For instance”. Imagine that I got to know the truth in my 60s! There are many other things that people are ignorant of or presumptuous about.
It is a reality of life that age is never a compensation for ignorance nor does it necessarily shade from error…ask God to deliver you from fatal errors henceforth.
That brings me to two types of error. There are errors that are of no real consequence. My ignorance of the true meaning of e.g and i.e falls under this category. It took me over 60 years before I got it right, but it had no serious consequences on me. The second type of errors could have debilitating consequences on our family, health, career, finances, or what have you. These are the type of errors we can least afford to commit. Jesus taught us to include a line to our prayer – LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION. As you commence the last month of this year, make this a regular part of your prayer. In addition, ask God to deliver you from fatal errors henceforth.
