Our focus in the last couple of meditation was the storm that Jesus and His disciples faced. We learned how Jesus rose to rebuke the wind and restored calm. Also, we learned that what Jesus did was what the disciples should have done – to take care of the situation. It is no less expected of us today to rise to the occasion whenever there are challenges. We have been graciously given the power of attorney to sort things out. For avoidance of doubt, power of attorney is a formal instrument by which one person authorizes another to act for him. Jesus preached, taught and performed miracles during His earthly ministry. He rebuked the waves and calmed the sea. When He was about leaving for Heaven He gave His name to the believers. That’s the power of attorney that He left behind.
Take the name of Jesus with you. Among other things, she describes the name as hope of earth and joy of heaven, and that it will give joy and comfort anywhere we go.
In the name of Jesus resides all the powers and backing of Heaven to reproduce all that Jesus did and stood for. Lydia Baxter (1800-1874) wrote many hymns, but the only one that survives in today’s hymnal is Take the name of Jesus with you. Among other things, she describes the name as hope of earth and joy of heaven, and that it will give joy and comfort anywhere we go. The name of Jesus on our lips potentially gives us victory wherever we go.
