God made a way of escape for Lot and his family before He brought down judgment on Sodom. He was charged to hurry out lest he “be consumed in the punishment of the city.” The next verse tells us the extent that God would go in seeing that the righteous is kept out of trouble. “And while he lingered, the men took hold of his hand, his wife’s hand, and the hands of his two daughters, the Lord being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city.” Genesis 19:16 NKJV. God, through the angels, literally yanked Lot out of Sodom.
Sin breeds destruction; and if the righteous will not separate themselves from sinners, they may suffer collateral damage.
Sin breeds destruction; and if the righteous will not separate themselves from sinners, they may suffer collateral damage. That has been proved in the case of Lot. We see a similar thing in the rebellion of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. Numbers 16 has the account of these men who staged an uprising against Moses’ leadership. God was going to punish them strangely for their rebellion, but not until He had warned the innocent souls to separate themselves from their camp. “And he spoke to the congregation, saying, “Depart now from the tents of these wicked men! Touch nothing of theirs, lest you be consumed in all their sins.” Numbers 16:26 NKJV. These two instances brings to the fore the words of Peter – “then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment” II Peter 2:9 NKJV. They can also serve as a pointer that God will take care of His church before evil is unhinged in the world through the Antichrist.
