Tom Peters is generally believed as the man who coined the phrase, Management by Walking Around. Well, I think He does not have the copyright of the concept, God practiced it thousands of years before him. When Israel was in the wilderness, God told them to keep their camp clean. Why were they given that instruction? “For the LORD your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you and give your enemies over to you; therefore your camp shall be holy, that He may see no unclean thing among you, and turn away from you” (Deuteronomy 23:14).
God’s ability to walk around sets him apart from idols…God is highly mobile! He wants to walk around and make Himself strong on behalf of those whose eyes are on him…A believer who yields to the Spirit brings the ability and the will of God to bear upon the society.
God’s ability to walk around sets him apart from idols. Where you put them is where you meet them. God is highly mobile! This truth is highlighted in our text. David had a plan to build a temple for God. While that initiative was appreciated, God made it clear that it had never been His desire to be containerized and restricted to a place. He wants to walk around and make Himself strong on behalf of those whose eyes are on him. Jesus demonstrated this divine strategy in His earthly ministry; He was found going about everywhere doing good. It is comforting to know that God is still mobile and active. The interesting thing is that He walks and works through each believer who has been filled with the Holy Spirit. A believer who yields to the Spirit brings the ability and the will of God to bear upon the society.
