A couple of people received divine invitation to one mountain or the other. We have Moses and Elijah as examples of this. While there they both received patterns to work with it. So patterns are generally released and received on the mountain. Should we climb the mountain literally like these two men in order to receive from God? How do we explain the idea of climbing the mountain to a modern day believer? In Bible days mountains were associated with sacrifice. You can recall Mount Moriah where Abraham was asked to go and sacrifice his son. You can also recall Mount Carmel where Elijah made sacrifice to God before the rain. Climbing the mount which gives us opportunity to receive the pattern will entail one form of sacrifice or the other. If you want God’s pattern for your life, get ready to pay a price for it.
Crossing the border of the flesh into the Spirit is compared to climbing the mount. Therefore whatever you do to be in the Spirit is actually climbing into the mount.
Also, John heard an invitation in Revelation 4:1 to “come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.” Verse 2 of Revelation 4 then adds, “Immediately I was in the Spirit”. It is in the Spirit that we receive the patterns of God for our lives. Crossing the border of the flesh into the Spirit is compared to climbing the mount. Therefore whatever you do to be in the Spirit is actually climbing into the mount.
