The text before us describes the blessedness of the person who does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly and does not stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful. Whoever fulfills these conditions can be said to be a righteous man or woman. So we can deduce that righteousness is one of the Bible codes for prosperity. You can be sure that none of the business academies will include righteousness in their curriculum as a factor for success. For instance, economists talk of factors of production. These are the resources that people use to produce goods and services. They call them the building blocks of the economy. Righteousness did not make the list. Rather what you have are land, labour, capital, and entrepreneurship. Ironically, one can hold or have all these in a brutal circumstance of unrighteousness.
The Bible shows an inseparable linkage among righteousness, establishment, and success. Talking about the king’s throne, the removal of the wicked from around the corridor of power is a recipe for establishment. “Take away the wicked from before the king, And his throne will be established in righteousness.” (Proverbs 25:5 NKJV). Even the general progress of a nation is tied to righteousness. “Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any people.” (Proverbs 14:34 NKJV). If righteousness can raise a nation, it will more easily raise individuals. One thing you can be assured of while walking in righteousness is this: God’s got your back! With God on your side success is assured.
