Isaiah spoke prophetically about the works of Christ the Messiah. He was going to receive many stripes for the healing of all types of human diseases. As the Roman soldiers laid stripes on the bare back of Jesus, God was dealing with our ailments. A look at Jesus’ ministry on earth revealed that He had healed substantially even before He was beaten with stripes and then put on the cross. If healing took place before He received the stripes, what ground do we have to doubt its possibility afterwards? The stripes of Jesus are efficacious for our healing now as when they were first laid on Him.
The stripes of Jesus are efficacious for our healing now as when they were first laid on Him…we have been given health through the stripes of Jesus, but we must contend with the adversary as we go on to possess it.
Despite the heavy price paid by Jesus, many people are still sick. What could be the reason for this? The fact remains that whatever aspect of redemption package we fail to appropriate cannot benefit us. Believers ought to use the fact of Jesus’ punishment to press their case for healing and health. After God told the children of Israel that He had given them Sihon, the king of the Amorite, He went on to charge them “to possess it, and contend with him in battle” (Deuteronomy 2:24). Similarly, we have been given health through the stripes of Jesus, but we must contend with the adversary as we go on to possess it.
