In theology, the concept of hypostatic union refers to the combination of both divine and human natures in the person of Christ. The gospels as well as the epistles clearly show both the divine and human dimensions of Christ. The text for today’s meditation is one of many such scriptures. We are told that Jesus was wearied from His journey. This must be talking about His human side since, according to scriptures, God is never tired or wearied. Here, we notice that weariness is one of the things that could happen to human beings. Of particular interest for us is what Jesus did when He was weary. He sat by the well. In their days, the well was where people resorted to, particularly those who came to fetch water for domestic needs or their livestock. He sat where He could easily access refreshing. It is a great mistake to isolate yourself when you are weary or discouraged. That might be the time when your desire for corporate worship is at its lowest; but that is when you need it the most. The warmth you will get in the place of fellowship with other children of God will be enough to set you on your feet again.
Putting a spiritual spin on this, whenever you feel weary learn to sit by the “well of the word”. There is a washing that comes by the word of God. In your low moments, extended time in the word will be of help. Just a “rhema” jumping at you from the pages of the Bible can be the powerful tonic you need to change the narrative, and move from weariness to strength. Finally, remember that the Bible says Jesus is the High Priest who has been through the spectrum of man’s possible experiences. Having been weary Himself in His earthly walk, He knows how to help you back to your feet.
