Mastering fear is the key to great accomplishments in life. Take a look at how fear can hinder progress. Peter wanted to be sure that it was indeed Jesus who was walking on water. So He asked Jesus to grant him leave to walk on water too. At Jesus’ approval, he got out of the boat and walked on the water. However, he did not last long. Reason? He was afraid. “But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”” Matthew 14:30 NKJV. Fear stopped Peter from continuing on the path of progress.
Mastering fear is the key to great accomplishments in life…While entertaining a reasonable amount of fear can guide against recklessness, crippling fear must be avoided.
On some occasions, fear will even prevent stepping out at all. A necessary condition to accomplishing anything in life is to start. It is often said that the hardest part is the beginning. Yet without it, there can be no improvement. You can never improve on what you never started. Fear is top on the list of why many people never start. Many people are just afraid. It may be the fear of personal inadequacies or the fear of insufficient resources. Then there is paralysis of analysis, caused by incessant gathering of information and endless deductions before making a decision. Finally, there is the fear of failure, the consideration that our efforts may not yield the desired results. Going by all these, it makes sense when the Scripture says fear has torment. While entertaining a reasonable amount of fear can guide against recklessness, crippling fear must be avoided.
