Age is never compensation for ignorance nor does it necessarily shade from error. I reached this conclusion during the 2021 final outreach of the Revival Promotion Partners held in November. The theme of the meeting was THE BREASTPLATE. I was trying to provide what could be a modern-day graphic of what the breastplate must have looked like. I came up with the waist or inner coat. That is what many have referred to as “MONKEY JACKET”. For the audience whose age bracket ranged from late teens to late fifties, that was the first time many knew that it is not “monkey jacket” but mocking jacket! Can you see how age does not solve all errors or ignorance?
During the break period, an associate pastor of mine who had monitored the program online commented on this new finding. I followed up with further footnote that there are two types of error. There are errors that are of no real consequence. Imagine how long many people have used the term “MONKEY JACKET” to describe MOCKING JACKET. That has not had any serious consequences. However, other errors could have debilitating consequences on our family, health, career, finances, or what have you. These are the type of errors we can least afford to commit. Jesus taught us to include a line to our prayer – LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION. As you embark on a new year, not only should you make that a part of your regular prayer, but you need to add that you are not led into fatal error as well.
