In the past couple of days we have examined trending problems globally – increasing suicidal tendencies and high cost of living. These things are all interwoven. The Police officers who came for the enlightenment campaign in Malawi disclosed that one of the reasons pushing suicide rate among men is their inability to service their loans. Chances are that the high cost of living pushed them to debt, and the inability to pay back pushed them to suicide. It can be said that worry is pushing people to the precipice.
Corrie ten Boom has this to say about worrying: “Worrying is carrying tomorrow’s load with today’s strength- carrying two days at once. It is moving into tomorrow ahead of time. Worrying doesn’t empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.” Worry makes people carry loads beyond their capacity. What is God’s word on this? Our text discourages anxiety. Rather, we should make everything a subject of prayer. Instead of feasting on worry, we should rather feast on God’s grace. Every time we come to God’s presence and pour our hearts before Him, we are feasting on His grace. In His presence, we trade our worries for His supernatural help.
