The last couple of our meditations broached the subject of reward. This is a good place to add that both our earthly reward as well as the eternal one will rest squarely on our readiness to fully obey the Lord. The problem we often face is that there are too many people who only want to obey the Lord on their terms, doing only what they find convenient. We have an illustration of this in the case of the woman of Zarephath. When Elijah asked the woman for water, she had no problem with that. However, when he called for a little cake in addition to the water, she protested. Keep in mind what the Lord said to Elijah before sending him to the woman. Categorically, the Lord said that He had commanded a woman to sustain him. So, we can say that the woman had an inkling of who was coming before Elijah arrived. When reality dawned on her, she became selective of which word of the Lord to obey.
“Both our earthly reward as well as the eternal one will rest squarely on our readiness to fully obey the Lord…Complete obedience is what moves the power and blessing of God in our direction.”
As we said earlier, complete obedience is what moves the power and blessing of God in our direction. Here is what Paul said about obeying the Lord fully: “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.” II Corinthians 10:4-6 NKJV. When the widow rallied herself to complete her obedience, there was no lack of any good thing in her household.
