The beginning of Scriptures introduces us to God at work. The first verse of the Bible says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” By the end of that chapter, God had in earnest created all that was deemed necessary for that space of time. That, however, did not stop Him from work. When Jesus came on the scene He attested to the continuous work of God in the universe. He said, “My Father is always working, and I too must work” (John 5:17 GNT).
It is encouraging to read of God “working salvation” and not God who “worked salvation”.
Now, what is the nature of God’s work? Our lead scripture says that He works salvation in the midst of the earth. The Hebrew word translated as salvation here has a wide variety of uses. It means deliverance, victory, and prosperity. Salvation in this context encompasses health and welfare. The devil steals, kills, destroys, and brings general confusion to the earth. However, God is up to the task. It is encouraging to read of God “working salvation” and not God who “worked salvation”. That is, whatever He has done before, He is still capable of doing today. God is still in business!
