Her stage name was “Nightbirde.” By the time she appeared on AGT, she was at the last stage of cancer, with only a two percent chance of surviving. Her song cast a spell on the audience and teared up the judges. Here is the lyric of the first stanza:
I moved to California in the summertime
I changed my name, thinkin’ that it would change my mind
I thought that all my problems, they would stay behind
I was a stick of dynamite and it just was a matter of time, yeah
Her song captures the attitude of most people when there are problems. We love to move to a different location. We placate our mind that when we move, our problems will all be left behind. It does not always have a happy ending. In reality, even when old problems are gone, new ones may soon replace them at the new location.
The existence of problems in a place is not enough reason to relocate… It could be what providence has earmarked you to resolve. Staying or moving from a place must all be at the discretion of God.
Elimelech migrated with his wife and sons to Moab, hoping to leave the famine behind. He and his two sons died in that land. This is not to suggest that all migrations end in disaster. There have been people in the Bible and contemporary times who moved and prospered. The point is that movement of any kind must be orchestrated by God. The existence of problems in a place is not enough reason to relocate. The problem might be the reason God put you there to begin with. It could be what providence has earmarked you to resolve. Staying or moving from a place must all be at the discretion of God.
