Two things are rolled into this verse as constituting the heritage of man; that is, glory and honour. In the previous meditation, we established that when glory is used for man, it has to do with affluence. The focus today is to demonstrate the superiority of honour over wealth. We know men of little means who are held in high esteem in the society. Honour comes from integrity. Honour comes from having a good name and a good report among the people. It is the product of conducting one’s affairs with utmost chastity. Honour comes as you become a person whose word is their bound. Above all, following the example of Christ is a verified way to honour.
Every believer must be conscious of God’s name just as He is. This way we are able to fully enjoy the heritage of honour.
God is conscious of the honour of His name. Hence, Israel was forbidden from mentioning the name of the Lord to buttress a lie or profanity. Every believer must be conscious of God’s name just as He is. This way we are able to fully enjoy the heritage of honour. Now, let us note that a man of means will be able to buy anything at any time; but a man of honour will obtain goodwill where money either is insufficient or incapable of handling situations. There is, however, an advantage for believers who keep the full counsel of God: both wealth and honour can be at their disposal.
