We ended our previous meditation by tracing our ancestry to Abraham, through faith. We also learned that those who are now in Christ are entitled to the blessing of Abraham, at least potentially. This potential blessing will become our reality when we learn to embrace the works of Abraham. Doing Abraham’s work opens us to his blessing. From our text, we notice a liberal disposition in him and this must be a part of our life as well. Abraham gave of his substance. A number of things made what Abraham did to be spectacular. First, there was an eagerness on his part. Genesis 18:2 tells us that Abraham ran to greet the men standing in the distance.
When we give, we should bear in mind that we determine the measure of our returns. If it is small, we have a small return; and if it is bountiful, so shall the harvest be as well.
Financial stewardship has come under bad review in recent times; but this has not taken anything away from the fact that God wants us to give, and joyfully too. The rule has not changed. We also noticed that Abraham gave liberally. When we give, we should bear in mind that we determine the measure of our returns. If it is small, we have a small return; and if it is bountiful, so shall the harvest be as well. The Bible enjoins us to entertain strangers, because that was how some Old Testament saints entertained angels without knowing. Of course, those angels did not leave their benefactors without paying back.
