Over the years, it has been my privilege to commission some young men and women into ministry. I have had to rein in on some of them when it came to reeling out their visions. Some said emphatically that they were going to be a para-church ministry and never become a full-fledged church. I found it necessary to caution them not to commit themselves that loudly. The same has been my approach to widows. I have heard women, after losing their husbands, say they would never re-marry. My advice has always been that it is still too early in the day to make such categorical statements.
Those who know that they are currently operating with limited light will remain cautious and humble…The secret to walking with God is to maintain an open heart.
My inspiration for throwing in this caution is because of our text – we know in part. Apostle Paul noted that both our current level of knowledge and prophesying are in part. It is for this reason that we learn never to say never. Those who know that they are currently operating with limited light will remain cautious and humble. They realise that God can lead in a different direction from a familiar part. It is for this reason that we have to take life one day at a time. It is also for this reason that we strive to maintain a close relationship with God, so that when there is a change of direction, we are able to discern it. The secret to walking with God is to maintain an open heart.
