In a recent survey released by the British Airline Pilots’ Association (BALPA), 56 per cent of 500 commercial pilots admitted to sleeping while on the flight deck. Of this lot, about one in three said they had woken up to find their co-pilot also asleep. In such cases, the fate of passengers was determined by the auto-piloting system of the aircraft. Pilots fall asleep mainly due to tiredness, a leading cause of air accidents.
“Learn to depend more on Him than any other man-made arrangement.”
You cannot leave your security to expertise alone. Imagine thousands of people who would have been under the control of those pilots who fell asleep. They would be chatting the time away or sleeping. I have learnt not to leave my journeys to chances or rely unduly on the safety records of any airline. Before my flights, I usually pray under my breath as I board the aircraft. Through prayer, I bring the crew, passengers, and equipment under the control of God. I hide everyone and everything under the Blood of the Lamb. As our text says, ultimate safety comes from God. Luckily, He does not sleep or slumber, because He never gets tired. Learn to depend more on Him than any other man-made arrangement.
