Hospitality has proven to be a great key for unlocking different types of blessing. We can attest to two families who got miracle babies through this timeless tradition. It was shortly after Abraham and Sarah entertained the visitors that the reassurance of the promised child came. On that occasion, God set a timeline that the baby would come within a year. The woman of Shunem also had her baby on the platform of hospitality. After many rounds of taking care of Elisha, her womb opened and she gave birth to a son.
Hospitality has proven to be a great key for unlocking different types of blessing…One way of casting one’s bread upon the waters is hospitality.
Our text points to a different kind of reward of hospitality. We have here the record of the two men who walked to Emmaus on the day that Jesus resurrected. They had been engaged on the way by the same Jesus, who they thought to be a stranger, one who was ignorant of current affairs. On reaching their destination, they compelled the “stranger” to come in with them for dinner and stay the night in their place. Their attitude demonstrated that they were hospitable people. It was as they sat at dinner that their eyes were opened to see that they had been talking with the risen Lord. Their reward on that occasion was divine disclosure. The book of Ecclesiastes says, “Cast your bread upon the waters, For you will find it after many days.” Ecclesiastes 11:1 NKJV. One way of casting one’s bread upon the waters is hospitality.
