Perhaps the major difference between amateurs and professional sportsmen is that one can get along without coaches and the other cannot. There is no professional sportsperson without a coach. When I watch athletes in field events, I normally notice that after every jump or throw, they run back to the stand to have a word with their coaches. Coaches provide their wards with specialized knowledge including techniques, strategy, physical conditioning, and mental readiness to enhance performance. I believe that what a coach is to an athlete, the Holy Spirit is to Christians.
I believe that what a coach is to an athlete, the Holy Spirit is to Christians…The Spirit is given to us to coach us through life. To win, we must subscribe to the instruction of the Holy Spirit who is the Chief Coach.
Believers have as many issues as the unbelievers. We are often confronted with different challenges because we live in a fallen world in need of redemption. The good news is that we are not abandoned to our struggles. There is not a single moment that we are left to wonder alone. Before Jesus left, He promised to send us Another Comforter. “I will not leave you as orphans [comfortless, desolate, bereaved, forlorn, helpless]; I will come [back] to you.” (John 14:18 AMPC). The Spirit is given to us to coach us through life. To win, we must subscribe to the instruction of the Holy Spirit who is the Chief Coach. In our text, part of His duties is to guide believers into all truth. Elsewhere, it is noted that He will teach all things. John 14:26. You cannot have the Holy Spirit as your guide and remain stranded. There is nothing too mundane in your life which the Holy Spirit does not want to have a say in it.
