Psalm 19 talks of the heavens declaring the glory of God and the firmament His handiwork. Man is not to be left out in this noble enterprise. Accordingly, our text says that we should give God the glory that is due unto Him. For the avoidance of doubt, it immediately shows how this could be done – by worshipping the Lord in the beauty of holiness. A similar passage is found in Psalms 96:8. It says, “Give unto the LORD the glory due to His name: bring an offering, and come into his courts.” Here the way to give the Lord the glory due to His name is by bringing an offering. There is a third dimension we can inductively introduce in giving glory to God. This is by allowing Him to lead us as He might sovereignly choose.
To choose where we want to go and then ask God to take us there will amount to reducing God to a piece of equipment…Allowing God to take the lead is giving Him the glory due.
I have always wondered at that small technological device, GPS. I still cannot wrap my mind around how it can help one navigate the most obscure of places. As wonderful as it is, it can only guide but futile when it comes to protection. Moreover, before a GPS can guide you, it is compulsory that you enter the code of your destination. Now, we cannot adopt this method in our dealings with God. To choose where we want to go and then ask God to take us there will amount to reducing God to a piece of equipment. This will be presumptuous, if not totally sacrilegious. If He is truly our Lord, He should reserve the right to tell us where He wants us to go and equally dictate how to get there. Bear in mind that wherever He leads hold the best prospect in the long run. Allowing God to take the lead is giving Him the glory due.
