During a recent teaching, I observed that the earth is a mission field and all born into it are missionaries by default. This observation drew its strength from Genesis 1. “God said, Let Us [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness, and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the [tame] beasts, and over all of the earth, and over everything that creeps upon the earth. [Ps. 104:30; Heb. 1:2; 11:3.]” Genesis 1:26 AMPC. The general mission for all of mankind is to take care of the planet. Within this large spectrum, individuals will have to locate their niches.
…mission is to preach the gospel to all creation. This is what is commonly referred to as the Great Commission. Embedded in this commission is doing the greatest good to the greatest number of people.
In a slightly different fashion, all believers are also missionaries. Their mission is to preach the gospel to all creation. This is what is commonly referred to as the Great Commission. Embedded in this commission is doing the greatest good to the greatest number of people. Whereas the purpose for all believers is the same, the platforms for its execution are different and diverse. We are to arm ourselves with the fact that our careers and vocations are platforms for carrying out this divine mandate. Regardless of the specific field we occupy to fulfill the commission, we will all need the power of the Holy Spirit. As our text indicates, Jesus depended on the anointing of the Holy Spirit to preach the gospel. We will not need anything less.
