One of the key takeaways from our meditation yesterday is that adherence to rules is essential for anyone who desires to become a ruler or a winner in life. There is a spiritual angle to this truth. We cannot win with God unless we keep His laws. There is the law of priority; that is, putting God first in everything. The first commandment is that we should have no other gods before Him. There is the law of trust. Only those who trust Him completely can experience the depth of His love. Our text reveals other laws to abide by in order to walk with God effectively. We are to keep justice and be engaged in practical righteousness.
We cannot win with God unless we keep His laws… righteousness greases one’s prayer life…With all its benefits, righteousness should be a coveted subject by all believers.
The Bible emphasized practical righteousness because there is one inputted to us by faith. When we believe in Jesus Christ, His righteousness is assigned to us. We only need to take it from there and translate what is inputted into practical lifestyles. The practice of righteousness proves that you are born of God. “If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.” (I John 2:29 NKJV). Besides, righteousness enhances a person’s confidence. Proverbs 28:1 puts it clearly: “The wicked flee when no one pursues, But the righteous are bold as a lion.” (Proverbs 28:1 NKJV). Finally, righteousness greases one’s prayer life. According to James, it is the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man that avails much. Those who get uncomfortable when admonished to live holy probably got a wrong teaching. With all its benefits, righteousness should be a coveted subject by all believers.
