Nahum underscores one of the things that come the way of those who are wrapped around with divine presence. Mountains and hills cannot stand to hinder them. The prophet observes that the mountains and the hills melt at the presence of the Lord. Mountains and hills are metaphor for problems and difficulties. It is gladdening to know that no matter the challenges that confront us, the presence of the Lord will guarantee victory. This truth is beautifully conveyed in Paul’s letter. “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31). God on our side is victory assured.
The joy of believers should not be tied to happenstance or any earthly consideration; it springs like a well of water from the soul.
The book of Psalms enumerates other benefits of divine presence. It is from such presence that we derive joy. ”You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.“ Psalms 16:11 NKJV. Generally, people derive joy from several sources. For instance, increase in fortune or some other breakthroughs can produce joy. This kind of joy is seasonal and hardly last for more than a few days. It is the presence of the Lord that gives us joy in full. God’s Spirit gives joy. Through Him our mourning can turn to dancing, and ashes to beauty. The joy of believers should not be tied to happenstance or any earthly consideration; it springs like a well of water from the soul.
