Great people forge their names in the theatre of war. Some wars are literal while others are metaphorical. Such people help us understand our text that “David made himself a name”. What that means is that he became more prominent. Interestingly, that happened after a victory over the Syrians. This peak began when he defeated Goliath. The women, through their song, inferred that that exploit was like taking down ten thousand. From that time, every victory made him more renowned.
everybody is in one battle or another…Your lifting may be in your battles; so do not despair, and never give up.
Except for those whose career is in the military, not many people will be involved in physical combat. Notwithstanding, everybody is in one battle or another. Should you find yourself locked in battle, don’t despair. That may be your way to breakthrough and prominence. Paul the Apostle wrote to the Philippians and revealed a mystery about the name of Jesus. For humbling Himself to the point of death, battling the hordes of hell, the Father gave Him a more prominent name than any other. Your lifting may be in your battles; so do not despair, and never give up.
