When Paul wrote to Timothy, he reasoned that physical exercise provides only little profit; it is the spiritual exercise that is profitable in all ramifications. Exercise in godliness brings profit for the body, soul, and spirit in an enduring sense. This truth can be stretched to the subject of beauty. When it comes to physical beauty, people spare no expense. The craze to look beautiful could be informed by several reasons, ranging from the need to feel appreciated through sustaining romantic relationship to making money. Models, for example, will do anything under the heaven to look good; because that is how they make their money. Physical beauty holds little profit. However, it is the beauty of the inner life that is profitable for the present life and life in the world to come.
Inner beauty is on display when we let the character of Jesus echo through us. Outer beauty can draw people to you, but inner beauty will draw people to the Lord.
Accordingly, Peter enjoins women, and indeed every believer, that they should not be overly concerned with their physical outlook. No matter how beautifully packaged the body is, it has not reduced from the fact that it is dust. One day it will return to dust. The spirit of man is what will return to God, making it mandatory to put emphasis on it. Our passage states that the king’s daughter is glorious within. Sons and daughters of the kingdom should radiate the beauty of Jesus from within their soul to the world. Inner beauty is on display when we let the character of Jesus echo through us. Outer beauty can draw people to you, but inner beauty will draw people to the Lord.
