When people get born again, they transition from the darkness to light. “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love. Colossians 1:13 NKJV. This implies that there are two kingdoms – darkness and light. It further implies that there are two lords. However, one kingdom is inferior to the other; and the ruler of darkness is no match for the ruler of light. Ideally, those who have crossed into the kingdom of God’s Son ought to live in power and victory, because the greater One lives in them. However, many believers walk in defeat and this requires some clarification.
Ideally, those who have crossed into the kingdom of God’s Son ought to live in power and victory, because the greater One lives in them.
Those who are born of God have the privilege of exercising authority over the devil. Many believers become victims rather than the victors because they mix the rules of both kingdoms. It is unproductive to engage the rules of the kingdom of darkness while claiming to be in the kingdom of God. In our text, we see the importance of not loving the world. The world simply refers to the maxims and principles that unbelievers live by. Believers who live by such principles bring themselves under the control of the devil. It is futile, if not dangerous, for such people to attempt subduing the devil. Those born of God must make a clear separation from the world.
