Many years ago, I led a congregation to acquire a parcel of land. We got through that through the application of faith and the efforts of the brethren. Another parcel of land which was contiguous to what we had purchased came up for sale as well. So I was in a fix on whether to acquire that as well or forgo it. While I was tossing it in my mind, I came across a verse of scripture in Nehemiah 5:16 – “Yea, also I continued in the work of this wall, neither bought we any land: and all my servants were gathered thither unto the work.” (Nehemiah 5:16 KJV). In all my years of reading the Bible, I had never taken note of that verse; at least not in that light. Right there was the mind of the Lord revealed. It was as if that verse was put there specifically for me on that occasion. I jettisoned the idea of buying more land and gave our energy to developing what we had already gotten.
The mind of God has been captured in the book called the Bible…The waiting time must be invested in searching the book of the Lord.
The word of God is the mind of God. The word of God is the counsel of God. There is no better place to turn to access the mind of God. When Moses got to the Mount, the Lord spoke to him in an audible voice. At that time, there was no written word of God. We live at a different time. The mind of God has been captured in the book called the Bible. The Holy Spirit can breathe on the appropriate scripture to convey God’s counsel at any given time. When in our previous meditation we noted that time is required to access God’s counsel, we are not talking of idle time. The waiting time must be invested in searching the book of the Lord.
