As a first line of response whenever the disciples panicked, Jesus would normally tell them, “Fear not”. Among other negative effects, fear will take your peace away. In addition to this, fear will rob you of fully obeying the Lord. When Elijah requested bread from the widow, there was initial reluctance. Our text provides the reason for that reluctance. Simply put, she was afraid! She could not figure out what would happen next if she gave a little of what was already insufficient. A little prodding from Elijah, and the woman was able to overcome her fear. She made the first offer for Elijah, an indication that she placed God on her list of priority. The reward of this was a sumptuous provision for the widow’s household all the days of famine.
“Don’t let fear paralyze you from giving as at when due…Making God and His work of paramount importance in your finances will cause you to abound in all good things”
We live at a time when the prices of most commodities are flying off the roof. It is a natural thing to want to give in to fear. What we are to do is to step out of natural constraints and do what the scripture commands. Don’t let fear paralyze you from giving as at when due. Come to think of it this way: God gave His only begotten Son to the world. Had God withheld him for fear that He may never rise from the dead, we would all be hopeless sinners by now. God released His Son and now, He has many sons in glory. Making God and His work of paramount importance in your finances will cause you to abound in all good things.
