During the lockdown phase of the pandemic, I found myself using the same pair of shoes for three weeks back to back. Of course, at such moments the shoes you wear is the least of the concerns. What really happened was that I resorted to teaching online. My little office became the studio from where we were reaching out to the world. In the confines of that office, I found no space to move around as I typically do when preaching. The cameraman too had no space to maneuver for a life size image of me. So my legs were hardly captured on camera. I guess my experience would not be any different from those who watched online. Since they watched from the confines of their homes, there would be zero consideration for what clothes and shoes they put on every Sunday.
“Material things have their place; but if we make them our sole aim, life becomes a wild goose chase….Real life is in God”
What that taught me was the limit of the usefulness of material resources. We suddenly realized that though we had tons of clothes and shoes, there was no opportunity to put them on. We had cars but could not drive anywhere. Material things have their place; but if we make them our sole aim, life becomes a wild goose chase. Jesus taught us to know that material things are not the essence of life. Ironically, majority of people think otherwise. So from the start of the year to the end, all that matters to them is acquisition and more acquisition. Real life is in God; and when we have Him He will provide all that makes physical life possible. So this year let me encourage you that with all you ever hope to get, get God!
