Yesterday, we abridged the above scriptural passage. We present the complete verse today for a different reason. Ezra stood on a platform to read the book of the law in the audience of all Israel. However, he was not standing alone; a number of other notable leaders among the people stood with him on either side. We have been focusing on essential factors for making a mark and living a life of significance. We have already identified passion and platform. What comes on the heels of those two is partnership. The men who stood with Ezra while he was reading the law can be called his partners. The import of partnership can be better appreciated with this African Proverb: “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together”. Partnership is indeed necessary for making significant marks in life.
“Once you know your passion and secured a platform, ask God to link you with those who share your heartbeat….Partnership is indeed necessary for making significant marks in life.”
The mark made by William Wilberforce was not simply because he had a passion and used Politics as a platform; it was also because he had partnership with people of like persuasion. There was a group of friends called the ‘’Clapham Sect’’. This group of friends teamed up with him, and that was why his resolve to end slavery never abated. Apart from the Clapham Sect, someone estimated that he was a member of some sixty-nine voluntary societies. The scriptural rule of exponential power still holds true. If one can chase a thousand, two can put ten thousand to flight. A threefold cord will not be easily broken. Once you know your passion and secured a platform, ask God to link you with those who share your heartbeat.
