In the last two meditations, we identified two of the things that must be in place in order to walk with the Lord. We stated that praising and trusting God must go hand in hand. Today, we bring in the third prerequisite to walking with God, which is to walk in righteousness. Psalm 11:7 says, “For the Lord is righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright.”
“Psalm 11:7 says, “For the Lord is righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright.”
The other type of righteousness is known as practical or applied righteousness. This is doing what is right and conforming to God’s standards for all things. This is the type that Paul had in mind when he wrote to his ministry son, Timothy: “But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.” (1 Timothy 6.11). It is also this type of practical righteousness that Peter wrote about: “As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, ‘You shall be holy, for I am holy.’” (1 Peter 1.14-16). If you are looking for a manual for practical righteousness, check the book of Proverbs. There you find rules for an acceptable walk with God.
