On September 14, 2021, David Yonggi Cho laid down his armour and joined his Maker. The Christian world stood still for a kingdom general who did so much for the cause of the gospel. He will be remembered for pastoring the world’s largest church at a time. He will also be remembered for the Church Growth movement which he pioneered. Perhaps, his greatest legacy will be how he brought the personality of the Holy Spirit to the consciousness of believers globally. I think after Azuza and Kathryn Khulman, it was he who brought the Holy Spirit back to our consciousness in modern times. In his book, The Holy Spirit, My Senior Partner, he told of the dynamic relationship he held with the Holy Spirit. “Every morning when I awake I greet the Holy Spirit and invite Him to go with me through the day and take the lead in all my affairs, and He does. I say, Good morning Holy Spirit. Let’s work together today and I will be Your vessel.” By partnering with the Holy Spirit, he touched the world in a profound way.
It is not God’s design that the Holy Spirit’s fullness be the exclusive preserve of a privileged few. If we cultivate His presence, we also can daily enjoy the glorious beauty of the ministry of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Spirit wants to make our lives the centre of divine activities. That being the case, there will never be a dull moment or an unfruitful day. The challenge is that we often fall into the same mistake as those in the world. The world does not subscribe to the Holy Spirit because they do not see Him. Jesus compared the activities of the Holy Spirit to the movement of the wind; you can’t tell where it is going, but neither can you deny the effect. We do not see the Holy Spirit, but He is real. As we live conscious of Him and recognize His person we see more of His power in our daily lives.
