When Covid-19 took a turn for the worse, public gathering was banned in most parts of the world. Places of worship were under lock and key. That experience was enough to teach us that attending to the house of God cannot be restricted to a physical building alone. Even when there were no such restrictions, the number of hours we spend together in public gatherings are limited. So the physical gathering alone cannot fully capture the concept of the house of the Lord.
The moment we live in the consciousness of the presence of the Lord, and reverently live in the spirit of praise and worship, we are dwelling in the house of the Lord…Dwelling in God’s presence attracts blessing.
Jacob had a dream at Bethel. When he woke up this is what he said: ”Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.” And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!” Genesis 28:16-17 NKJV. It is interesting that there was not a single building at the place that Jacob called the house of God. Note also that there was no kindred soul in sight; only Jacob was there. So, what made the place the house of God? It was nothing other than the awesome presence of the Lord. The moment we live in the consciousness of the presence of the Lord, and reverently live in the spirit of praise and worship, we are dwelling in the house of the Lord. This is the only sense we can dwell in the house of the Lord forever on this side of eternity, by living in the spirit of worship that brings down the presence of the Lord. Dwelling in God’s presence attracts blessing.
